1. Design and Development of Equipments for Spine Manipulation
  • The number of patients with spinal problems such as scoliosis is increasing. The spine houses central nerve system and thus spinal problems may induce various types of pains and symptoms. Chiropractic spine manipulation is widely applied to rectify these problems.
  • During the spine manipulation, significant physical burdens are inflicted to the practitioners and as well as to the patients.
  • The scope of this project is to develop a set of equipments for easier and safer practices of spinal manipulation such as spine massager, spine scanner, pelvis corrector and others.

2. Design of Service Robot Arm
  • It is expected that in future, service robots will be a common home appliance such as today‚Äôs refrigerators and washing machines. People expect robots in SF films or in animation movies (remember NS-5 in the movie I, Robot (2004)?). Due to the technical difficulties such robots are not realistic in near future. The market for home service robots is not there yet.
  • An alternative approach to this problem is to provide a remotely controlled manipulator with minimal price. It may be called a tele-presence manipulator which can be used to take care of simple demands of daily life such as opening and closing the doors, feeding the dog, turning on and off the gas range and so on. There are many robot arms which resemble human arms and hands in the prices range of tens of thousand dollars.
  • The aim of this project is to develop an affordable service robot arm with the price in the range of one thousand dollars but with functions similar to human arms and hands. Our patents have been licensed to a leading robot company in Korea and efforts are being made for its commercialization.

3. Design of Stylish Open/Close Door System for Audio/Video Player
  • The aim of this project is to design the door system for disc players (CD, DVD, Blu-ray) with less noise and more freedom for styling.
  • We have designed door mechanisms with open/close and seal/release actions of the lid in joint efforts with engineers of LG Electonics.

Development of Deburring Tools
  • Deburring is the process of removing burr during manufacturing. Burrs are formed during material removing processes such as milling, drilling, blanking, punching and etc. Manufacturers spend a lot of efforts and money for the deburring of their products.
  • In case of drilling multiple holes that intersect each other, deburring is especially difficult since the poor accessibility of the burr site.
  • The aim of this project is to develop a deburring tool for drilled intersecting holes with maximum speed and surface quality.
